H.R. 8219 (119th Congress): Hungary, Russian energy and aid to Ukraine

Introduced April 9, 2026 by Rep. Marcy Kaptur, with Rep. Don Bacon. The bill aims to encourage Hungary to end its reliance on Russian energy and to “prevent Hungarian obstruction of financial or security assistance to Ukraine.” Its findings cite the February 2026 blocking of an EU loan package for Ukraine, and it would require a report on US facilitation of Hungary’s Russian oil and gas purchases. An opportunity: the 70th anniversary of 1956

AHF helped secure House resolutions for the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution (H.Res. 479, passed 395–0 in 2005) and the 60th (H.Res. 865, 2016). We have not found a resolution for the 70th anniversary in the current Congress.
