AHF held its 51st annual meeting at the Hungarian Reformed Church in New Brunswick, New Jersey, during March 5-6, 2010 3/12/2010 - 51st annual General Assembly meeting... The American Hungarian Federation held its 51st annual meeting at the Hungarian Reformed Church in New Brunswick, New Jersey, during March 5-6. Meeting participants included the leadership, members, and supporters of the Federation. During the meeting the leaders of the Federation presented their annual report; participants discussed various operational and policy issues; decisions were reached with regard to various issues, including financial contributions the Federation provides (such as the Hungarian Scholarship Fund); and a new slate of officers was also elected.

Frank Koszorus, Jr. was elected the Federation’s new President; Co-Presidents are Zoltan Bagdy, Gyula Balogh, and Akos Nagy; the Chairman of the Executive Committee is Bryan Dawson; Alexander Murray is the Treasurer and Ildiko Vass is the National Secretary. In addition, a number of Vice-Presidents, and members of the Board were elected as well. At the conclusion of the elections, the Board of Directors held its first meeting and elected Akos Nagy as the Chairman of the Board.

In his remarks accepting his office, Koszorus indicated that in addition to continuing the traditional work of the Federation, he intends to strengthen the organization and mentioned innovative ideas, such as recruiting Hungarian and American students to work as interns for the Federation, and assisting the American Hungarian community by developing a dynamic domestic program.

Founded in 1906, the American Hungarian Federation represents a cross section of Americans who trace their heritage to Central Europe. The Federation supports democracy and minority rights in Central and Eastern Europe. The Federation strives to unite the American Hungarian community, through work that supports common goals.

Az Amerikai Magyar Szövetség március 5.-én és 6.-án tartotta 51. tisztújító közgyűlését a New Jersey állambeli New Brunswick Magyar Református Temploma tanácstermében. A másfél napos találkozón az Egyesület vezetősége, számos tagja és támogatója vett részt. A vezetőség beszámolói után a tagok új tisztikart választottak, irányvonalakat és működési kérdéseket vitattak meg, majd döntést hoztak néhány fontos ügyben, mint például a Szövetség által nyújtott anyagi támogatások felől.

Ifj. Koszorús Ferenc lett a Szövetség országos elnöke. Bagdy Zoltán, Balogh Gyula és Nagy Ákos társelnökök. Bryan Dawson az Intéző Bizottság elnöke. Murray Sándor pénztáros, Vass Ildikó főtitkár. Alelnököket és új igazgatósági tagokat is választottak. A szavazás befejeztével az Országos Igazgatóság megtartotta első gyűlését, Nagy Ákost választván elnökül.

Székfoglaló beszédében Koszorús jelezte, hogy a Szövetség hagyományos feladatai folytatása mellett megerősíteni szándékozza azt. Újítási példaként említette a tervbevett amerikai és magyar diákok asszisztensi foglalkoztatását a Szövetség céljai szolgálatában (“internship”), és az amerikai magyar közösségek fellendítését egy dinamikus belföldi program kialakítása által.

Az 1906-ban alapított Amerikai Magyar Szövetség az amerikai magyar közösség keresztmetszetét képviselő gyüjtőszervezet, amely a demokráciát és az emberi- és kisebbségi-jogokat támogatja Közép- és Kelet-európában. A Szövetség közös célok elérése érdekében az amerikai magyar közösség egyesítésére törekszik.
