AHF President Frank Koszorus, Jr., traveled to Budapest to attend the 5th Hungarian Diaspora Council meeting held on December 2, 2015. The Council is devoted to safeguarding the Hungarian Diaspora physical cultural heritage (museums, Hungariand Houses, libraries, churches, archives). It also focuses on Hungarian language teaching in the various Hungarian Diaspora communities throughout the world. Prime Minister Viktor Orban opened the meeting which concluded with a dinner in the Parliament hosted by Laszlo Kover, Speaker of the National Assembly. During the break-out session of the North American region, Mr. Koszorus suggested that in furtherance of the above-noted goals, it would be advisable to address the inaccurate image that at times is being painted about Hungarians and their culture and history. He urged Laszlo Hamos that in his capacity as the re-elected president of the region he also focus on this increasingly important task. "The meeting offered a wonderful opportunity to meet with Hungarians from all four corners of the world and exchange experiences,” said Mr. Koszorus. "We trust additional similar meetings will be scheduled at which the participants can discuss issues of mutual interest,” he added. |
